Using a Vacuum Coffee Maker In Your Home

The vacuum coffee maker model, sometimes known as a siphon coffee maker, was a unit that was once very popular and only recently has been getting attention again.

The use of one of these coffee makers may take time and attention, but the act of brewing the coffee can be a major part of your enjoyment of the beverage itself.

The vacuum coffee maker is going to require a great deal of time and attention, but it also gives an experience that you can easily enjoy time and time again.

Before you run out to purchase a siphon coffee maker, you will want to understand the process that goes into brewing coffee in this manner. By studying the method of brewing this coffee, you can determine whether this is something you will be willing to do.

Many people have a traditional coffee maker as well as vacuum coffee machines, preferring the original coffee maker for a quick cup and the vacuum unit when they want a more special treat.

What Do You Need With a Vacuum Coffee Maker?

There are tools that you are going to need before you can properly use a vacuum machine to achieve the best coffee effect. These instruments will range between:

  • The bottom container that holds the water and where the coffee will end up.
  • The top container with the siphon where the brewing happens.
  • A sealing unit, often found in the form of a rubber gasket.
  • A filter, whether it comes in cloth, paper, metal, or glass.
  • A heating source, whether it is a stove top or an external heating source, like a butane burner.
  • Coffee beans and a way to instantly grind them.
Once you have all of these pieces, you should be able to start brewing coffee using the vacuum method. Specifics may depend on the type of unit that you buy. The heating element, for example, may be either a stove top or an external heater. This will depend on the bottom of the unit that you purchase.

Flat bottoms are built to sit on a stove top and gather the heat this way. Rounded bottoms are designed to hang over another heating element, such as the flame burner that you can purchase.

Using the Vacuum Coffee Maker

There is a process which goes into brewing coffee using a vacuum maker. Understanding how to operate a vacuum coffee machine is going to be important, otherwise you will simply end up with a terrible brew.

Look closely to understand the basics of using a vacuum coffee maker. The unit you buy should come with more detailed instructions, although this basic guide can help you understand what you will be getting yourself into.

To set the vacuum coffee maker up, you will want to put water on to boil. The tube which connects the top portion of the machine to the bottom one needs to be firmly attached and you will want to make sure that the filter is in place on the top coffee portion.

The coffee beans need to prepare to be ground so that not a moment is lost between grinding and brewing, providing the strongest possible flavor.

When you first start to brew coffee using the coffee maker, you will want to fill the bottom unit with water and bring it nearly to a boiling point. As the water is approaching this level, you are going to want to grind the coffee beans and place them into the top portion of the vacuum coffee maker.

Then, making sure that the tube is positioned correctly, place the top coffee section onto the lower one and make sure that the seal is maintained using the rubber gasket or other sealing agent that you have.

The pressure that is formed by the water vapor in the sealed bottom pot will force the water sitting in that pot up through the connecting tube, where the boiling water will then be introduced into the coffee grounds.

The brewing time can largely be left up to how strong you like your coffee, so a few minutes should suffice. Once the coffee itself has been brewing for a long enough portion of time, you will need to remove the vacuum coffee maker from the heating element.

As the cooling process starts to take over, a vacuum effect will be achieved. This will pull the brewed coffee down through the filter and you will end up having fully brewed coffee in the bottom pot.

The grounds will remain in the upper portion, stopped by the filter. You can usually serve coffee directly from the bottom pot and this result in fresh, hot coffee for you to enjoy!

Why Choose A Vacuum Coffee Pot?

Considering that so many units strive to produce great tasting coffee without delay, why would you want a vacuum coffee machine that seems to take this amount of time to prepare a brew? The answer lies in the fact that most people feel this is the optimal way to brew coffee.

The way that the hot water is introduced into the coffee grounds will provide a uniformity of flavor that a drip method often does not produce. The filter will have a better chance of holding out all of the coffee grounds and the freshly ground beans will contain all of the flavors and oils that pre-ground coffee beans usually lose.

A vacuum coffee maker is going to be a choice that you make when you enjoy gourmet coffee and everything that goes into preparing it.

You may not be able to enjoy coffee instantly with this method, but you will be granted flavorful experiences that many other coffee machines may not be able to provide. If you enjoy taking things slower and savoring your beverages more, this may be the best option to consider.
