Review of Jura Capresso F9

by Rick

My coffee maker is a Jura Capresso F9. The model is a few years old, but it's still a great machine. The line can be found at upscale kitchen stores such as Williams Sonoma.

The Capresso makes a single cup of coffee at a time, from bean to brew in about one minute. You fill the hopper with whole beans (or a different hopper with ground coffee), select the size beverage you want (small/strong for espresso, big/normal or big/strong for about nine ounces), and the machine immediately grinds the beans, steeps the grounds, and out pours the custom coffee you dream of.

I chose this coffee maker because it is probably the easiest to use on the market. When I'm just awake in the morning, the last thing I should be doing is dealing with glass carafes and measuring powdery substances. The one-touch operation for the freshest cup of coffee you can get was the selling point for me.

I was a happy Keurig user before I got the Capresso, and while I still do like the Keurig machine, I find that I can purchase fresher beans that are more to my liking with the Capresso.

The machine does need to run a cleaning/descaling cycle every few months. This is very simple, and involves using a tablet from the company. Also, you should not use extremely oily beans in this machine. It does all right with slightly oily beans, but too much oil can gum up the grinder.

At $1,700, the Jura Capresso F9 coffee maker is not cheap by any means. However, the ease of use, coupled with a built-in milk steaming arm and hot-water dispenser make it a terrific addition to my early-morning kitchen routine.
