My Keurig's temperature is off

by Shelleyeve
(Pgh. Pa.)

My son just brought his Keurig Plat. home for us to try , as he wants to buy us (father and mother) one for our birthdays.

I was really impressed with the high temperature this pot is supposed to reach for perfect coffee. I have done 3 temp tests and even set as high as 192 degrees it keeps showing on my thermometer 165 and no more. Is this something that can be fixed or should we call the company and have it replaced. It is only 3 months old.

Love the design and the speedy brew, but why does it not get up to the degree that it displays. This is an important part of true coffee brewing.

Temp is off on mine, too
by: Anonymous

I kept thinking my Keurig was off temperature wise, but my husband said he thought it was fine and I just like my coffee extra hot. Seemed reasonable to me. Last week I visited a physician's office that had one and was shocked at how hot the coffee was. I mean piping hot, couldn't drink it hardly at first. I'm pretty sure this machine was the smaller commercial/business model. I picked up a thermometer on the way home and checked and mine is at 162 degrees. My Keurig is two years old and I do keep it on all the time. Overall, I have been quite pleased and will definitely buy another when I need to. I do plan to buy the business model when I do so (I have found them for $129) and will start using the auto-off feature with it. I really wish Keurig would work out some of the kinks in their machine. They have a great product, just need to fix the two or threeissues they keep having.

KEURIG TEMP OFF
by: Anonymous

My husband bugged me for a year to buy one as he had one at work. I tried his while there loved it, but expensive. i waited until xmasto buy one. I had a pod machine and had problems with it from Gevalia. So i went back to an old fashion perk pot when the pod machine died. I had heard that sometimes the temps were not as hot w/pod or k-cups. WE are major coffee holics...starbucks, D & D, so I was waiting for our fave brands to become available for those machines. I gave in to the Keurig today after having fallen on the ice hurting my hand. I have had it 1 hr. Husband made i cup black for him & 1cup w/milk for me. I should have read reviews... I am ready to take it back NOW. COLD COFFEE when you add milk.He does not believe it nor did I. So I made another 2 cups. Black & w/milk. Same thing! This is awful. Perked coffee comes out so hot you burn yourself even with milk. I used his Keurig at work (Commercial model maybe?)I loved it. What is wrong w/this picture. I read stuff here and everyone says hot water cools quickly so do this or that? Again why settle? It is supposed to brew hot coffee. No excuses/solutions should be made. What coffee maker brand works correctly?

Addendum
by: Michael

As an addendum to my previous post, I would like to mention that all heating elements in all coffee makers wear out quite fast if they are on all the time, such as the option that you have with the Keurig. I set the auto off setting on my machine to 2 hours, so that it is ready if I want another cup of coffee, but shuts off 2 hours after the last use if no one uses it. This helps extend the life of the heating element. Also, hard water will kill your heating element.

As for why the coffee cools so quickly, heat a teapot of water to boiling, and pour it into a cup with a reliable digital thermometer, and it will soar to about 203 degrees. But, then watch it immediately start to drop temperature surprisingly quickly. Brew your coffee into a cup with a cover and only open it to take a sip, and this will solve that problem.

Temperature
by: Michael

Bought my pot in early December 2010. Today is December 29, 2010. Checked the temp of the water coming out with a very reliable digital meat thermometer, and it was 190. Very good.

I think that some of the complaints about coffee cooling so fast is because water is one of the fastest cooling liquids. It only takes 1 minute in the cup for water to drop from 190 to 155.

To help correct this, I brew my coffee into a stainless steel travel mug with a lid that closes, and this keeps my coffee hot for fairly long periods of time. Hope this helps.
