My Issues with Keurig Coffee Maker

by Teresa
(CA)

I've had my Kuerig for over a year-I love it! All of a sudden this morning it didn't brew a full large cup. I tried 3 times-no luck. The hot water is coming out the spout back into the water reservoir.

I've changed the filter, cleaned with vinegar, turned it up side down...it's still not working. It takes several attempts of hitting the brew button before it responds, and just a spat of water at best at that point I noticed a de-scale message on the display. Any thoughts on how to get my coffee maker to brew again?!

Thanks for you help!

Issues NEW
by: Anonymous

I too have had the machine for just over a year and it just stopped.

I bought it at Kohls and they exchanged it for me with NO PROBLEM. Apparently, it's not uncommon.

Not thrilled with Keurig, but, Man, I LOVE KOHL'S!!!

Loved My Keurig Special Edition for 4 Years
by: Anonymous

I'm having the same problems now after using my Keurig Special Edition for 4 years. I was going to buy another one thinking 4 years was a good life for one but after reading all of the complaints, I don't know if they're making them as well today. I sure did enjoy it while it worked well.

Must have patience!
by: Anonymous

I have had my Keurig for over 3 years, and it just recently started acting up. It dispenses a few drops on the first cycle, then, after opening and closing the cup lid, it will dispense 2 portions. I just learned to be patient - at least I'm getting my coffee!! I found an inexpensive stainless measuring cup to keep in place, since the 2nd run typically overflows my larges coffee mugs. Having to run 2-3 cycles to get my coffee actually gives my milk steamer time to get my milk warm and frothy so I have a perfect cup of hot coffee everytime - I just have to be patient!

I have tried the "finger over the tube" trick, and that does work to clear the lines. It seems like the pump is drawing in more water after the cycle runs than it needs, so on the 2nd dispense, there is too much to brew and it just spits it all out at once.

I still love my Keurig :-)

Fixed my problem
by: Anonymous

Thank you "I HAVE A SOLUTION" . I did what you said. I clicked brew, took the cap off the water tank part and put my finger over the tube for the remainder of the brew time. I then did the process again without my finger over the tube (how you normally make coffee) and it worked!!!!

Keurig Coffee Makers are a piece of $#@%
by: Lorrie Lynam

I got one for my husband the Christmas of 2010. I bought it from QVC. The same day I got it it was crap. So when I called QVC they said not to return it to call Keurig. When I called and explained they told me that the platinums that went out over the holiday, They were having problems with. For me to dispose of the one I got from QVC and they would send out a new one. It didnt work after 3 days. So again called Keurig and anthother was sent out. And GUESS WHAT? It worked for about a month. So I never threw the first one out.And thought I would give it another try. worked for awhile then stop. I did this in rotation of all three for a little over 8 months finally My husband desposed of the one that was then a done deal. And I was left with the two. Finally they both just wasnt gonna work. I finally decided to call Keurig back and see what they were gonna do. They gave me more $#@% then the coffee maker. NEVER AGAIN! Will I waste my time or my money. I agree with dude...CLASS ACTION SUIT!

Keurig products suck
by: Need Caffine

Bought a new Keurig Model B31 and it will not heat up and dispense water. Call the 800 hot line and they sent me a new B31. Run water thru to clean and then made a cup of coffee. Next day put water in the machine and NOTHING. Water will heat up but will not dispense water. I tried a few things and still NOTHING. Going to all the fabulous 1-800 number and see how to get my money back.

fixed my issue
by: Anonymous

About 2 weeks ago my keurig platinum decided that it wasn't going to heat the water anymore. Upon turning on the machine it would pull water from the tank begin heating for 2 seconds and shut off. The only way to get a cup was to repeat the off and on multiple times and then you'll get a half cup because the rest dumped back into the tank. Unplug machine, pull tank, plug in turn on press menu 3x replace tank, open and close cup tray.... it's all good now.

Curse of the Keurig Coffee Maker
by: JohnnyMac

Less then one year old and the same problem as most of you are reporting....I wrote Keurig and told them where and what they can do with their wonderful machine! A huge rip off of the people! One hundred and some odd dollars for a cheaply made piece of crap. Someone needs to find a young Lawyer and start a class action law suit! Shame on you Keurig for not taking care of the problems.

Less than year old Platinum Keurig leaking
by: Anonymous

I purchased my platinum Keurig less than a year ago. Approx 3 months ago it stopped brewing a full cup, then it stopped brewing altogether. I went through all the steps as indicated in the manuel, descaled even though it wasn't calling for it. Did the paperclip thing and it started back. Now the water reservoir is leaking. I have to take the water reservoir off the unit and sit on counter until I want to make another cup.

second machine in two months
by: Muldoon

Bought a new Elite, one month later the pump runs but doesn't draw down the water reservoir, after awhile the no water light come on. Float in the reservoir is up and okay. Keurig sends me a new machine, one month later the smae scenario with this one. Keurig is sending another new machine. Problems seems to happen after it sits overnight.

Tried that
by: Anonymous

Tried the suggestion of the paper clip but it still does not. This is the THIRD Keurig we have. The company is apparently aware of all the problems because they have sent us two because of this same problem and now this last one doesn't work. I will never get another one. VERY poorly designed machine, and what makes it doubly bad is they are not cheap! Very Frustrated

Solution
by: Anonymous

Ok gang here is the solution to your brewing issues. Simple
Y unplug the unit, remove the water container, turn unit on it's side. Open door where you normally pit your coffee puck. The sharp pointy unit that penetrate the coffe puck is where your need to focus your attention. There are 3 holes, take a paper clip and run it up in those openings wiggle it as well.

Whala, back to brewing a full cup of coffee again.

Love it!
by: Anonymous

I've had mine for about 3.5 years. Its the home version. We make about 3 to 4cups a day. I haven't had any problem yet. I do however make sure I clean the system monthly I run it without coffee and take it apart to clean. Maybe the new ones aren't make as well. Good luck everyone!

Problem coffee maker
by: Lainey

I'm on my 3rd machine...and now this one is not working as it should. What is interesting is that with each one, it's a different problem! I'm ready to just get my money back and buy something different. I should never have gotten rid of my french press...it always worked!

I think this might be it.
by: sady187

I have found that if I give my Keurig a whack on the side every couple of days, it makes a full cup of coffee. I think that it just needs to be "burped" occasionally to get the air out of the line.

A year later, time to replace
by: Anonymous

I see a trend with these comments. No matter how many times I descale, needle poke, or sing softly to these machines it either completely dies on me or brews only a fraction of a cup. This is my second machine within 2.5 years. I refuse to add another machine to the local landfill. I will return to my Mr. Coffee machine. Thank you

by: changing

Never again will I buy a keirig coffee maker , same problem everytime, on my third unit and still same problems, half cup or sometimes 1/2 ounce, never can get brew size set, always have to change it. what a pain in the back side!!! Dont buy it

Half brew
by: Anonymous

Love the convenience and taste of my machine but hate the hasstle of having to constantly clean and maintain this machine. When you pay good hard earned money you expect satisfaction from your product. Will do what my neighbor does...stick to the old fashioned percolator. It brews good coffee and is not as wimpy!!!! Wimpy wimpy is what this machine is!!!!

Opps
by: sady187

Opps, I take it back.... the solution worked a couple of times, and now it's back to making only a half a cup. I'm afraid to buy another Keurig.

Simple solution!
by: MajicNJ

We too have been having a problem with our Cuisinart/Keurig brewer not brewing the right amount of coffee.

Thank you "I HAVE A SOLUTION"! We also tried the trick of pulling the water container off once the machine started brewing and putting a finger over the tube. IT WORKED! Our brewer is now making 12 ounces again this morning. I was ready to ditch the thing... I even pulled out my old coffee pot.

Of course this was after we spent most of the day cleaning it with various solutions! At least it is clean!

Thank you again for the information!

I HAVE A SOLUTION
by: Anonymous

We have also had this problem for quite some time... getting a full cup once in a blue moon, but mostly getting half cups and water going back into the retainer! I HAVE THE SOLUTION!! Luckily we found it on another website after searching forever so I'm attempting to spread it around for more people to have access too... if you have done the descaling and it does not solve the problem you likely have air in your line!! Either hold your hand over the tubing back to the holder while it is brewing a cup, or what really helped us was giving it a nice "tap" to the side (I mean knock it like your spouse did something wrong)! to dislodge the air bubble. We haven't had a problem since!!! :o)

Keurig stopped brewing too..again
by: Anonymous

Same thing happen to mine...sucked up all the water and then just wouldn't brew, even though the display said brewing. I tried turning off, unplugging, vinegar, all with no luck. This is the second machine this has happen to in 3 years. Lucky for me I bought at Costco and their lifetime warranty came to the rescue..again. The return lady at Costco said they get alot back right around a year from purchase. Kind of a pain but I just packed mine up and came home with my 3rd..I'll be sure to save the box and receipt again!

TRICK for Brewing
by: Anonymous

My Platinum (out of warranty ) too, has brewing problem. I figured out how to get my 9.25 oz cup. I push the travel size first and then go through a second time with the old 9.25 setting. I get a full cup. Now I'm on to customer service to do battle. I make 8 cups per week. There is no way this costly machine should poop out after such little use. I refuse to buy another machine until the one I have really bites the dust and refuses to brew in spite of my manipulations. When that happens, I will buy another brand. Maybe Dunkin Doughnuts will come out with it's own brand of maker. Oh, my friend replaced the keurig with a more expensive brand, and that one died after 6 months. It had the same problem. Seems to be a faulty design of the part. Whoever manufacturers that part should be checked into.

Fixed my issue....
by: Happy for now

After almost a year my Keurig started not releasing enough water for a large cup of coffee. I added a lil less than quarter cup or of white vinegar to a full reservoir of water and went through 4 cycles of fresh water. I also popped out the plastic piece that punctures the K-Cup and cleaned it w/hot water. Low and behold it's fine now, i'm assuming it had a build up of scale and maybe coffee oils in the puncture piece. I have never put any of the pieces in the dishwasher ever tho it states you can. My dishwasher gets really hot and a lot of the pieces a soft plastic. Maybe that has saved me thus far..?

Keurig Disappointment
by: Kevin J Massingill

I originally got my Keurig Platinum edition coffee maker for Christmas in 2008. August 12th of this year. The pump gave out. It stopped circulating the water to brew a cup of coffee. The display would show the word ( Brewing ), and the machine would sit there quietly doing nothing. I have now gone back to my Black and Decker coffee maker. I have read from other complaint boards. The state that Keurig has a recall on the pumps used in their machines. They have not corrected this issue. They are still installing defective, low quality . pumps. Instead of replacing a defective Keurig with another potential defective Keurig, We should stop buying their machines untill the Keurig company corrects these issues. For $200.00 they should last alot longer than coffee makers costing substantialy less. I will not have another one till this issue is resolved.

Loved it, now hate it
by: Anonymous

When you spend so much on a coffee pot, you expect it to last more than a year!! I was so excited about my Keurig Platinum that I actually helped salespeople in several stores sell them with my enthusiasm... Watch out salespeole in my neighbrhood... the HATE THIS THING is now on the war path!! Of course, since it's just over the year, my Keurig is past the Warranty stage... It started acting up a few months ago but I didn't think much about it until it stopped completely.... It has been descaled and paperclipped to death with no good results... Maybe one out of 30 times it will actually get 6 ounces of water coming through it... I haven't been able to make a cup of coffee for 2 months... just keep playing with it... continue to try to get the vinegar to go through it... continue to do the paperclip fix.... I think my next mocve is to throw the thing away and go back to my OLD and TRUE Mr Coffee!! (The convenience of the one cup pot is not worth the price or aggravation)!!

Keurig not brewing full cup
by: Anonymous

the problem with your machine is probably coffee grinds stuck in the tube that punctures the bottom of the cup. You need to remove the cup holder and remove the bottom portion of the cup holder to get access to the tube then push a paper clip in the tube to clear the grinds out

Half cup
by: Anonymous

I'm also on my 3rd Keurig machine. My first one lasted a year before it started brewing only half a cup, the second one lasted a day and this one has lasted about 5 months. I go back to the store I purchas them from and they refund my money and I buy another one. Always the same model. A coffee maker should not be this much of a hassle. The store I purchase it from is so used to people bringing them back, I don't understand why Keurig is not trying to fix this problem. I'm gonna try a different model this time and see if I have better luck. If not, I'm done with Keurig for good!

Keurig Clogs & Bad Customer Service
by: Anonymous

I've had my brewer for just one year; it has stopped working on at least 4 occasions in that time period. Today I called customer service yet again and just like the others, went through the idiotic paper clip "remedy". I expect the machine to crap out in a few days again. Unlike the other person(s) who got a replacement - Keurig refuses, instead they keep blaming "wear and tear" and mineral buildup. I too have descaled the thing countless times even when it doesn't tell me to. I love the machine ... but it can't be cleaned as they instruct because of the ridiculous lever design. You can't even see where you're supposed to insert the clip. I think I've had it and will begin looking elsewhere for a replacement. Great invention, just sucky design.

three machines and counting....
by: Anonymous

I, too, have been through three Keurig coffee machines, and I am now having trouble with the third one. I love them, but after a few months each machine has stopped working. The water doesn't want to come out and fill the cup. I bought my original one at Kohls, so I continue to take the broken ones back and they refund my money each time and I buy a new one. I don't want to have to give up my Keurig coffee, but if I go through a fourth one and it quits on me I may have to consider another brand.

Problems with the machine not working
by: Anonymous

The machine stopped working after about 8 mos. I have always doubled filted the water. I use the filter for the coffee maker and filter water from the tap. The replace the machine but it is a pain waiting for another machine to arrive and shipping back parts of the old machine.

The machine stopped working again today. This is about another 8 mos after the replacement machine.

I love the machine and the coffee but I wish they would fix the problem that causes the machine to stop working.

I will be calling today to see what they are going to do about it not working again.

I may have to buy a back up coffee maker.

Keurig trouble
by: Anonymous

I've gone through 3 machines with this same problem. It usually happens within about 6 months time. I have descaled at the recommended 3 month time periods. My 4th has just quit on me with the same issued. Keurig customer service always puts me through the same procedures (cleaning the needles with a paper clip) but it never works. They always end up replacing my coffee maker. It is very inconvenient but at least they replace them at no cost. These machines are under a 1 year product replacement warranty.
