My Experince Of Keurig B66 Coffee Maker

by Tom Smith
(Denver, CO USA)

Keurig B66 Coffee Maker. I experienced a "Not Ready" failure mode that locks up the Keurig coffee maker after randomly brewing a cup and emptying the internal reservoir.

I thought it was a one time issue with the first unit we purchased from COSTCO (Model B66 with extra K-cups bundled), but after quickly going through 3 units in less than 2-weeks over Thanksgiving (COSTCO processed the returns without issue) and talking to the Keurig Factory Service Department multiple times to ensure we weren't doing something to cause the failure, we became convinced that there was a fundamental manufacturing flaw across all the models that has not been corrected during the past three years judging by the posts I've seen on numerous blogs.

Our failures came pretty quickly after only 10 cups with the first unit, 5 on the second, and 1 on the third.

The Keurig Service Department said we should not plug any other appliances into the same outlet, which we followed precisely on the third unit... it made no difference.

Very disappointing to say the least. I also agree, Keurig has a great idea... but poor execution by not being able to quickly fix this obvious flaw.

Since the time this was posted the thread has got too long...so here are the Step by Step Instructions as posted by a User at the bottom of this page -

There are 4 steps to fix this:

1. Simultaneously press and release "small mug" and "medium mug". Immediately afterward press "menu" 3 times. (Menu is the black button under the display screen.) You should see a time 6:09 on your screen.

2. Press "menu" once. Your LCD screen should say Brew 0:00.

3. (I messed this step up like 10 times and had to unplug the machine, then replug it and start over at step one. You have to unplug if the LCD displays "auto ____". If it continues to flash "Not Ready" and "Brew" then you can just keep trying step 3). Press and hold "medium mug". While holding "medium mug" press and release "menu". Immediately after pressing "menu" (while still holding "medium mug") press "small mug". Release "small mug" and "medium mug" at the same time. This entire thing needs to be done very quickly. as soon as you release "menu" go to "small mug" and release both buttons quickly.

4. Unplug the machine (do not turn it off). Wait for 3 seconds or so. Plug it back in, turn it on and follow the instructions for priming.

Not priming
by: steve

This is my second machine The first lasted 3weeks. I brought it back and had to buy it in another store. this one lasted about 3 months without problems. To night it ran out of water in the reservoir when making a cup. It then would not seem to prime. Now I did so many things that I am not sure which worked but... I read some tips here none of which worked! It would just run and shut off. Since there is no control when there's no water the buttons are useless. Finally I gave it a good shake while plugged in with water. It reset so the word menu displayed.I got it to brew but only drips came out. I removed the filter assembly, and it primed only to a half of cup.The next ones were full without any problems. I think letting it drain of water while brewing caused the filter to be pulled down to the screen, this preventing water to the machine. When I returned the filter back the problems started over again. The filter is only 2 weeks in the machine, so it's not clogged. I just think it was sucked in the screen?

Priming
by: Anonymous

How many times do you have to go through priming the machine? I got to "prime", press the button, cool water cycles through, then it shuts off. I unplug it, plug it back in and when I power it on, goes right back to "prime" with no way of moving on..... HELP!

Reset worked on 6th attempt with one small change
by: Anonymous

So thrilled to find the reset instructions. We moved from Georgia to Okinawa Japan and packed our treasured Keurig. Needless to say it took two months for our shipment arrive and when I plugged in our machine it had the dreaded NOT READY flashing. I utilized the reset instructions above and was able to get the screen to reset to 0:11 but unable move to the next step and brew. On my last try I unplugged the machine and proceeded through the steps with the same result...got frustrated and on step three instead of holding the medium cup while pushing and releasing menu I simutaneously pushed and released medium cup and menu and then medium cup and small cup, this worked like a charm. So happy to be enjoying a yummy cup of coffee right now!

Shake it Baby!
by: Robert

I'm with the guy above. The only thing that seems to wok for mine is to take the water tank and tray off, etc., and then shake it aggressively upside down over the sink. So far that has worked every time for me and it keeps working for several days after that. Note that the trouble with my brewer is that it says it is ready to brew and brewing but the hot water won't come down. I think it is a sticking valve.

Fixed my b60!!!
by: Anonymous

Thank you so much for the info!! I repeated these steps and was able to get my keurig from not ready to brewing in no time. Keurig customer service was awful. They said that no technicians were available and left me on hold forever to tell me to try unplugging it and removing water tank, as if i hadnt tried that already. I love my coffee maker even if it has some glitches and is in desperate need of a reset button!

10 months and going strong
by: luxmissus

I have now had my new B70 for 10 months without a problem. It has its own plug in, I do the regular descaling, and I turn it off at night. I have had no problems from day one. Cross my fingers.

Interestingly, the old B70 I took to work is behaving well now. I found this forum because I was looking for some answers for its issues.

Still, I agree with posters below. How can Keurig continue to be in business when it has significant problems with its coffeemakers? I love my Keurig but I am hesitant to recommend it to people because of the track record.

B66 - Piece of Crap
by: Anonymous

Got this thing during the holidays. Rarely use it, yet after about 5 cups of tea, already getting the Not Ready on the screen. My impression is that some of the glowing reviews are from people who are really in need of their cup a Joe in the morning. I'm not one of those people. I mostly bought it for tea and hot chocolate.

After waiting for the dark chocolate to be available for months, I finally try to use it in this thing and it's not working.

While I will go ahead and make a few attempts at all this button pushing, it looks as if coffee maker companies have gone the way of computer companies - Put out a piece of crap; make you pat your head and rub your tummy trying to get it work; then after providing almost not existent support the customers are left to support each other, aka fight amongst themselves to find a solution.

Glad I paid less than half price for the machine. I've learned over the years.

How many replacements can they send to you
by: Anonymous

This is my second Keurig. The first one I received as a gift from my children and it worked fine for two years but was very noisy. It was the standard model only making one size. It finally went on the fritz so I purchased the B66 model. Very nice looking and very quiet but soon developed problems with only brewing for a 1/2 cup or so then stopping.
I was surprised to call and have them send out a new one plus 2 boxes of coffee. That was two weeks ago and now my "second" new one has the same problem! I called and they are sending out another one!! How can you stay in business doing this?
I love the coffee maker IF it would work properly. They really should get the bugs out before putting them on the market!

Keruig - Worst coffe maker I have ever had
by: Larry Smith

Keruig should be prosecuted for selling these bogus coffee makers. I have had nothing but troubles with my B70 model. It has not worked, even when new out of the box. Keruig technical support, when you can get to them after setting on hold for many minutes, can only make suggestions that do not work.

Like these -
Unplug the coffee make and wait five minutes.
Un-scale the coffee maker.
Use only bottled water.

I have de-scaled this maker about 50 times in the last six months, and it still will not make coffee. One thing I have done, that will get it to make a cup or two.

Unplug the maker.
Take off the water tank.
Pick up the maker and shake it vigorously for about a minute.
Plug the maker back in, and turn it on.
Put the water tank back on.

We have the same issues and currently on our 6th machine. Keurig customer service are polite and send a replacement within a week, but it just continues to happen. It is extremely frustrating as when it works it is a great product, but now too frustrating to bither with.
I tried the above approach to get it working but no luck.

resetting a B60
by: Anonymous

I have had my B60 for almost 2years and only had a couple minor hippcups in that time. But, I recently moved to a new state and my Keurig was drained and packed and sat in storage for a month till we were able to get into our house. When we got the coffee maker out and filled with water and hit the power switch on it showed not ready and the blue light would not come on and it would not take in water.
I tried the reset sequence like it was posted here about 50 times and it would not work. I could get to the 0:00 part but the sequence after had no effect. Frustrated I tried it when the read out said 1:11 which was the read out just before the 0:00. The machine went into a purge of two loads of water with no heat and when I pushed menu again, the screen went blank and I then hit the on button and the word Prime came on the screen. I did the prime sequence and it is brewing fine ever since. I can say if I hit other buttons during my sequences but it is now working. No wonder they dont publish the how to guide on that. Would be a encyclopedia in size.

Simple solution "fixed"
by: Florida Ed

Yes, Mine did the same thing as yours "it locked up...made priming noises but did not pump water into the reservoir...said NOT READY...it did all of those". I tried to do the "sequence" of pressing this button while holding that button etc. I have turned it off and on slowly... rapidly...the next day etc. I tried not filling the reservoir while in the position in the maker, but none of these worked! Are any of you suprised? I returned the maker to find that all had the same problem...VERY SENSITIVE AND TEMPERMENTAL. Mine would freeze up at least 2 times a week and this went on until I thought I was going to use it for a boat anchor until I read one solution review about not sharing a plug with another appliance (my refrigerator). Then I tried that and of course all the plugs in my kitchen are on the same series. I thought maybe the solution is in the electric flow that the maker pulls. I then went to Walmart and bought an "APPLIANCE SURGE PROTECTOR", one that screws directly onto the wall plate and WA-LA, I have not had one problem since I did this.
So...my remedy is to place it on a cheap surge protector. It has been 6 months now and my wife and I have had NO PROBLEMS YET. The refrigerator comes on and off...it still works. I turn it on whenever...I fill it while the reservoir is on the maker and off...I make cup after cup...AND THE THING STILL OPERATES WONDERFULL. GET A SURGE PROTECTOR!!!! It has worked for us.

Another Solution
by: Anonymous

Hi,

I just spent the morning trying to resolve this "Not Ready" issue and wanted to report that I called Keurig's Customer Service (on a Sunday!) and the rep successfully fixed the problem for me. Before calling, I had tried the reset steps mentioned above but they had not worked for me. When I spoke to the rep. She had me take off the reservoir first, THEN turn on the machine, and then place the reservoir back in (front to back). It worked like a charm. (Thank goodness too, because I am outside the warranty period.)

I hope this simple fix helps others.

Good luck.

No hot water to brew from B70
by: Phooey in Phoenix

The unit will not brew coffee. It sucks the water out of the resevoir at the bottom and returns hot water to the top of the resevoir. An ounce of water goes into the cup, but it has small, black sediment and the water is cold. I called Keurig and they will send a new improved model and two boxes of coffee. This is very nice, but it will take 10 days to receive the new unit. I bought the unit at Costoc and they no longer carry the appliance. I am obviously concerned about the reliability of the new unit from this manufacturer. The unit is about four months old and average use is less than three cups per day. I have always used filtered water in the unit and it's the only appliance plugged into the outlet. Does anyone have a fix for this?

Thank you for putting the reset instructions
by: luxmissus

at the bottom of the article. It is nice not to have to scroll through all the comments.

For my old B70 all I have to do to reset is turn off (not unplug) and hit the buttons on either side of menu together at the same time and then hit menu. Then I turn it on again and it works. I also like the idea of taking the water reservoir out and in and may try that if the simpler solution doesn't work.

I've had my new B70 for 7 months now without any problems. I took my old B70 to work and it seems to only have problems when I change cup size. FWIW.

Not able to get my B70 reset

Ok, I'm stuck. I've been trying to reset my B70 for about an hour. If I press the two round buttons simultaneously and then press the "Menu" button four times the display reads as follows: "0:24" and "BREW". If I press the "Menu" button five times, the display reads: "0:00", "BREW", and "MENU". I've tried doing the '3rd' step with both selections without success. Any suggestions?

RESET...FIXED MINE !!!!!
by: Kim

Just wanted everyone to know that I just got my Keurig B70 to work. It was flashing "Not Ready" and I could not turn it off no matter what.
I followed the instructions above from:
Reset instructions
by: Bitterman
The important key is that you have to do the sequence FAST!!! Practice the order then try it. If you get the LCD to display a time (ex:0:02)after the "press menu 3 time"...then continue and press the Menu button again.

..(after getting the "brew" display with "time")
In step 3...keep repeating step 3 until you get the "auto__" or something similar that would indicate the sequence is working. THEN unplug like it says in step 4.
If in step 3...you contine to see "Brew" or "Not Ready" displayed with the time, REPEAT the sequence.
BELEIVE ME.....I was skeptical, but it worked perfectly when I finally did the sequence fast and accurate.

PS: Just wanted anyone that is having trouble with their Keurig not brewing (no coffee pouring in cup)...I have noticed that certain K-cups seem to not work correctly. The pink KONA with the flower ontop, it just sits there and nothing brews. So, if I start to panic that my machine is broke..(like I have many time until I figured this out)..I start unpluging, restarting the brew...then the pump gets out of wack. The best thing to do is to remove the K-cup immediatley, and unplug, wait a while, then plug back in.
*I think the pump keeps trying to pull in water, then no water comes out (brewing), then the pump is not primed correctly so the hot water starts dripping back into the reservior. I unplug for an hour or so...then it seems to correct itself.

Question on B70 Platinum Reset Instructions
by: Cranky in CT

Hankdoll, per your instructions the machine should be turned off when you do Step 1 -- "press the two round cup selector buttons...at the same time and release"? My machine was off, so it didn't say 0:00 and BREW. Am I supposed to turn it on before I start pressing buttons? (When I do, all I get is "NOT READY" -- ON or OFF, there are no numbers to show the time, etc.)

I need a cup of coffee to even think about tackling all of this. I've only had the machine for a month and am extremely annoyed at its failure!

-------------
Hankdoll said: These instructions do infact work for the B70. Make sure the machine is plugged in but turned OFF. Then press the two round cup selector buttons on the side of the menu button at the same time and release. Then press the menu button 4 times. It'll now say 0:00 and BREW. Do as the directions below state (step 3), push the round right cup selector button and keep it pressed, quickly hit the menu button and then the left round cup selector button and release the left and right cup selector buttons at the same time. Unplug for about 10 seconds. Then turn the power button on the back of the machine. It will say PRIME when it comes back on. If it doesn't then you didn't do step 3 correctly.

Keurig B77 "Not Ready" - Conclusion (hopefully)
by: Joe H

I have found a simple fix to this problem which seems to reliably work for me with my Keurig B77. Before I describe the fix I will describe what happens before the fix is necessary:

1) Keurig on and ready to brew
2) It brews a cup OK but doesn't pump water from the tank to whereever the water goes.
3) A few seconds later, the unit switches off.

My fix (along with what I think might be going on):

1) I unplug the Keurig. I'm guessing that a sensor senses something wrong or a internal circuit breaker pops.
2) Make sure that the Keurig is unpluged for at least 10 or 15 seconds. My guess is that whatever mechanism shut it off has to reset. Maybe this is temperature related.
3) Remove the water reservoir.
4) Turn the unit on. There is no need to touch any buttons on the front of the unit. The "Add Water" should be displayed along with the "Not Ready".
5) Replace the water reservoir.
6) Don't touch anything. It will either start to pump water immediately, or after a short delay.
7) Brew your coffee.

I have repeated this 4 or 5 times in the last few days and it has worked as described every time. I don't use the clock or automatic on/off features on mine so this problem is only an inconvenience. I sure that anyone who depends on those settings would find this a major inconvenience.

Good luck!!

Joe

"Not Ready" Model B77
by: Joe H

The first time I had this problem was about a week after I got the unit. I tried some of the solutions in here with mixed success. I've now reached the point where I can reset it in less than 30 seconds. I have not figured out the exact sequence but here are the key steps. I'll figure out the exact sequence on a day when I'm not frantically trying to get my 2nd Kcup processed so that I can head out to work. My machine seems to sense when I'm in a hurry and hiccup at those times.

1) Unplug the Keurig
2) Remove the water reservoir
3) Plug the Keurig back in
4) Switch the Keurig back on, display shows that the reservoir is not in place
5) Put the reservoir back on
6) Hit the menu button a few times and it seems to come back to life.

What I think is happening is that, after I put the reservoir back in place, the machine does its own mini-reset which is enough to solve the problem.

(I've been using a technique similar to this going back to the early 1970s to fix frozen computers. Load or unload a CD or DVD, plug something into the USB port, or do something that interrupts the computer from doing what it is doing.)

I love this brewer WHEN IT WORKS!
by: Anonymous

The "Add Water" remains on and cannot brew until the "Ready to Brew" feature comes on my B60 Model.

I'm so frustrated as I love my coffee in the morning and this is not a cheap machine.

I contacted the company exactly four times. They sent me a new water tank but that did not solve my problem.

I agree with everyone else on this site. The concept of this coffee brewer is great but they need to get the kinks out.

I'm very disappointed. I would love to buy another one but this machine is too expensive to replace every year!

If anyone has a solution as to how to get my machine to brew..........PLEASE let me know.

NOT READY message
by: PMB

February 6, 2010
I purchased the model from Bed, Bath and Beyond a month ago. After barely using the machine (an average of 1 cup a day), the horrible message, "Not Ready", flashed on. What to do? We tried all sorts of remedies and, occasionally, it will begrudgingly brew a cup. However, it is not dependable for it refuses to make coffee more often than it does. I am returning my machine to B,B and B on Monday. I will try one more time to get a machine that is not a lemon. If the second machine acts up(and from reading these other numerous comments I pessimistically suspect it might), I shall ask for my money back. What a pain in the neck! My husband loves the machine but who wants to put up with something that is not dependable and costs almost 200 dollars no less! You would think the company would have fixed the flaw by now since it is apparent customers have been complaining about it for at least three years.

Glitch
by: Debbie

So, after three days my B70 went into shut down mode...after reading the posts here and trying the reset mode without success, I tried a new outlet...because the B70 had been plugged in to the same 4-way where I had also used my griddle. Griddles use a lot of energy while plugged in and I think that it caused the problem for the B70...unfortunate, since this really shouldn't be a problem for any appliance nowadays. So it either needs a dedicated/solo outlet, or it should be unplugged when other appliances or being used. Weird.

Stuck in Not Ready Mode
by: Wade

After about 20 cups my unit started to get stuck in the "not ready" mode. I ran across this site. It has done it twice now between my last 5 cups of coffee. The first time it corrected itself after I turned it on and off several times. The most recent time I unplugged the unit and upon plugging it back and starting it, it basically reset..drew from the reservoir and heated the water. It acts like to me there is a problem, based on the comments on this page, a defect, in one or more of the sensors between finishing a cup and the draw of water from the reservoir. I have about 3 weeks to decide whether to return the unit for my money back. Too bad, because I was thinking about buying another as a gift.

Not a full cup solution

We bought our machine for the office. We experienced several times that we weren't getting a full cup and couldn't figure out why. Finally we noticed that it was easier to just add water to the reservoir. YOU CAN'T do that, you MUST take the reservoir out and fill it. Now we haven't had the problem since.

I had only one cup of coffee this morning when my B70 Platinum gave me the "Not ready" error and kept shutting down. I did some searching, came across this, was momentarily alarmed that I was going to have to send the machine back and go out for more coffee. I did a reset though and now am on cup #2. Whew!

I bought my machine at a department store just two months ago... This really shouldn't be happening with such a new machine. Looks like a QC problem. And the waste I'm reading about -- totally irresponsible. These things should be repairable to some degree.

Fixed my B70 stuck on BREW
by: Anonymous

My B70 was having the opposite problem, it was always stuck on BREW but wasn't actually doing anything but humming slightly. I tried unpluggin and reprogramming with no effect.

I then followed HankDoll's post dated March 12, 2009. Machine was plugged in and but turned off. I pressed the buttons to the right and the left of the menu button together and then let them go together.

2. I pushed the menu button 4 times. Machine is still off.

3. I turned the machine on and it said "not ready" but when I put in a K-cup, it brewed fine. and came back to not ready as it should.

I still don't trust it and I'm glad I'm getting another but at least I've got myself a nice large glass of iced coffee. Thank you HankDoll!

Thank you so much for posting this link. My machine is about 14 months old and I just got this problem.

I am now reconsidering purchasing one for my mother-in-law as I do not want to maintain both machines.

It really is a shame as I love this machine. My girls make hot chocolate and I have no worries about them getting burnt. Everyone can get their own flavor and strength.

Fixed!
by: Anonymous

Thank you - worked perfectly. Only thing I would add is that you have to push the key sequences quickly - after several deliberate attempts of trying to do things exactly right, it finally worked after I got ticked and just started pushing buttons fast - and that the numbers that display are often different than those give in the instructions. To whomever posted the original instructions, you should get some kind of award...

Thank you! Saved my B70!
by: Anonymous

I cleaned and packed my B70 for vacation (don't leave home without it!). Not sure what happened en route, but when we unpacked and started it, I got the blue screen of death flashing "NOT READY" and the power switch did not work. I followed the B70 instructions below - I did the Step 3 sequence 3-4 times before I was speedy enough. My beloved B70 is back up and running. Thank you!

Still Not Ready
by: Bummed w/ no java

So when I got my new B66 in today, I plugged it in, NOT READY automatically starts flashing, I haven't even touched the first button. The LCD is blue the Not Ready is flashing. Push the power button, nothing different happens. The blue light doesn't come on in the resovoire... I call Keurig, the CS rep is so helpful telling me it's nothing I did wrong, it's an easy very simple fix...takes my information and tells me someone will call me back tomorrow. I have followed any and all suggestions from this site with no luck so far.

Priming Problem Keurig B60 B66
by: Godflesh777

the machine is amazing and after about 5-15 mins of trying the 3 step suggestions for priming the unit posted above for the B66 or B60 either model you'll find it works fine after some messing around with it

also you'll be hard pressed to find a better coffee machine for under 300-600 dollars than a keurig B60 SE or B66 platinum

it's truly a luxury item in my opinion
initially it's a bit frustrating though

then you realize that you can read forums for help and have more patience than a child with legos

5 stars but disappointed @ priming error

consumers deserve a recall for something this complex as a typical start-up issue workaround

like a "reset" button maybe? lol

Keurigs are Awesome, Company Sucks
by: Anonymous

Having bought, sold and fixed over 20 of these machines I have to comment that they are one of the most reliable and best designed home appliances I have run into in a long time. What sucks is that this wonderfully Green and Awesome company (check into the awards they recieve) Green Mountain Coffee is so ignorant when it comes to their customers and the planet. They don't sell any parts period. If you have a problem with a coffee maker you throw it out and they send you a new one. You need a water tank lid or a drip pan for whatever reason your SOL unless its under warranty and then you are forced to throw out the entire unit and they send you a completely new unit! Waste beyond comprehension. Until recently and still to some extent they don't even share the codes to fix the damn things. The customers here are caught in the middle of a global transition to products that the manufacturers dont want fixed under any conditions. Planned obsilecense at the extreme. It is a shame to say but almost all the problems I've read about here can be fixed with very little effort. I won't share my secrets because thats where I am trying to make $$ but it makes no sense whatsoever for Keurig (Green Mountain Coffee) to leave customers like you hanging.

Keurig is the best

We have a Keurig at the office that has been running perfectly for 2 years. I bought a B66 for home and it ran great for 6 months and then started leaking out of the bottom along with rust. I called customer service and they immediately replaced it! I didn't even have to ask. Now that is extraordinary service!

NOT READY at startup
by: Anonymous

Got a new B66 at Sams's today.
Just like other posts I got the NOT READY prime read on the screen after exactly following the enclosed startup prime instructions step by step... Got the NOT READY prime read after step 8, ie "Press flashing blue mug button". A little frustrated I tried unplugging and plugging, which did not resolve the issue. However, just opening and closing the K-cup holder a few times solved it...Maybe include that as step 9 in the instructions to resolve some frustrations. It works great, and beats expectations.

Finally, B50 working again!
by: Hyun Jin O

Thanks to this post, I was able to get my Keurig working again. It did take quite a few tries to get it right, but the steps did eventually work on my B50.
The difference with mine was that I didn't have to unplug it. But there were a few differences.
1. I got to a number as close to 00:00 as possible by pressing the menu button a few times. Then I unplugged it and it seemed to reset to a point where my display was reset. But no "prime" yet.
2. Try the sequence again and keep pressing menu until you get to 00:00 and then follow the sequence of right, menu, left. However, (for me anyway) it just went straight into "prime".

Good Luck!

by: Locogato

Just got my B66 and am dismayed at the problems that are listed on this site. I bought the B66 after reading 6 posts of praise on another site.

What really pisses me off is that you are locked into their cups of coffee. Enough of that crap. I cut the top off of the first cup I ran, flushed it out and filled it with my own ground bean coffee. Works like a champ.

My machine worked for approx 6 weeks. Now: it displays "ready", I put the K cup in and it says brew. Whether I pick the large or the small cup, each time, it does not brew but goes back to "ready". The machine feels warm. Anyone know what to do for this? Am waiting a call back from customer service.

b70 reset
by: Hankdoll

These instructions do infact work for the B70. Step 3 is difficult because there is no indicators telling you that you did it correctly. Once you get it right, hit the brew button and drain to Prime. Worked for me, however it didn't correct my problem because the water comes out cold...must be a bad heating element. :(

This is very frustrating because we have an older model that we have had no problems with!

Can't get these instructions to work, Need reset instructions for B70
by: Thirsty in San Antonio

I too have the problem of the "Not Ready" light and I too have had no help from Keurig. They kept telling me that they would call back but did not and when I finally called them enough they asked if I had descaled the unit and when I indicated that I had not because the sensors never told me to, they said the instructions were clear that I had to do it any way. They have offered me a discount, but will not replace my machine. They tell me that the heating element has failed and that it cannot be fixed and that my only option is to buy a new one. I doubt that, because I have been faithful to put nothing other than bottled distilled water in it since day one. I have probably spent more money on bottled water than I did on the original machine trying to avoid just this problem. I have opened the bottom and find that the water in the tubes is crystal clear and there is absolutely no signs of residue.
The instructions here may work for a B60 or B66 but they do not appear to work for the B70. Does anyone have reset instructions for this model B70?

Reset instructions
by: Bitterman

OK. I had the exact same "Not Ready" freeze-up on my brand-new B60. Another generous owner posted these reset instructions which worked beautifully. I had SLIGHTLY different readouts on my LCD but the effect was the same. Here are the reset instructions:

Here are 4 steps to fix this:

1. Simultaneously press and release “small mug” and “medium mug”. Immediately afterward press “menu” 3 times. (Menu is the black button under the display screen.) You should see a time 6:09 on your screen. [MINE READ 6:05]

2. Press “menu” once. Your LCD screen should say Brew 0:00. [MINE READ 0:01]

3. (I messed this step up like 10 times and had to unplug the machine, then replug it and start over at step one. You have to unplug if the LCD displays “auto ____”. If it continues to flash “Not Ready” and “Brew” then you can just keep trying step 3). Press and hold “medium mug”. While holding “medium mug” press and release “menu”. Immediately after pressing “menu” (while still holding “medium mug”) press “small mug”. Release “small mug” and “medium mug” at the same time. This entire thing needs to be done very quickly. as soon as you release “menu” go to “small mug” and release both buttons quickly.

4. Unplug the machine (do not turn it off). Wait for 3 seconds or so. Plug it back in, turn it on and follow the instructions for priming.

One interesting note: Sam's Club's B66 bundle came with the water filter assembly and extra filters instead of the My K-Cup accessory. I was ecstatic as I was going to purchase it anyway. I can wait on the other with 96 brews to enjoy. Good luck!

Our son and daughter-in-law gave us this unit for Christmas and we love it! On the second day, we turned off the 'ready to brew' button as we are not home during the day and found it a waste of energy keeping the water hot that long. Is it all right to do this? Or should we leave it on all the time? When we want to brew a cup, we just push the button and wait for it to warm up again, which only takes a few minutes.

Upon opening my B60, we too couldn't get by the prime phase, it just said "Not Ready"

We called customer service and although they were very polite and nice, they couldn't help up reset the machine~ they said that only the technical department had that code. Not wanting to have to wait till tomorrow for technical support to call me back, I found this site online.

It's funny that customer service didn't have the reset code but you could post it so perfectly for us.

Thanks to your code, the machine is now working! Thank you. I just think its ridiculous that customer service couldn't have just given me that code to reset machine.

Keurigs that don't have problems...
by: Tom Smith

I can only comment on my own personal experience, so I don't know if there are other Keurig models that are more reliable. I am on my 5th unit (which is working perfectly as of today). I went through 3 B66 Models from Costco, and am on my 2nd B70 Model from Kohls. Based on my experience, there may be an issue with Keurigs being able to handle power fluctuations. When I spoke with the Keurig Customer Support folks, they strongly recommended NOT plugging in ANY other appliance to the same oulet you have the Keurig plugged in. I followed their advice on my 3rd and 4th units and they stilled failed. When I added a surge protector between my 5th unit and the wall, I haven't had any further issues. May just be the luck of the draw on units, or it could be the surge protector provides that last bit of protection. One final note, I do turn the unit off between brews. I have a sister and a brother that both have had Keurigs for over a year with no problems.

Do any Keurigs not have "not ready" problem?
by: Katie

I was just about to buy a B70 when I found this page. Now of course I am having second thoughts! It sounds like all of the Keurig home brewers have problems - is this correct? Is there a model that does not have such problems? And is there another brand to consider? I could not find one online. Also it's interesting that the website singleservecoffee.com highly recommends the B70 and makes no mention of the "not ready" glitch". I will not be taking their advice anytime soon!
Thanks in advance!

Works perfectly
by: Russ, Grapevine, TX

My wife and I received a Keurig B66 as a Christmas present (25Dec08). We just put water and a K-cup in, waited a short period until the ready script displayed and brewed an excellent cup of coffee. Since then (four days hence) we've brewed about 20 cups of coffee without a problem.

On the "not ready" comment above: I also got that script when I'd forgotten to put a cup into the machine and closed the container. Could it be that there was no new coffee K-cup in the machine?

A further point: I've noticed that the flavor is affected by how large a cup one brews. Even with "bold" coffee, the large cup makes it too weak for me (My wife likes it weak.). I find that either the small or medium brew size works best, depending on the coffee. Recommend owners experiment.

Great machine!

A few more thoughts...
by: Tom Smith

Thanks for documenting the "factory reset" button press sequence. I went through that process on my second unit without success... I'm glad to see that it worked for you. Believe it or not, I'm currently on my 5th unit! I've upgraded to the B70 unit but have had one of those go bad too. I don't know if it is a coincidence or not, but I have installed a single outlet surge protector from Radio Shack as a precaution, just in case power fluctuations are causing my problems. The surge protector was only about $8, so I figured it was cheap insurance. Based on conversations I've had with the Keurig service people, I suspect that all their units are sensative to power fluctuations. I still like the Keurigs when they work!

I'm ready - It's NOT
by: Bummed

After giving my sister one of the models last year for Christmas she returned the favor this year and gave me a B66 modle from Costco. Excited to get it going I unboxed the unit and proceeded to follow the Prime Instructions. After filling the water tank I pressed the Prime button and the B66 vibrated (cool blue lights and all) but I didn't notice it drawing much water from the tank and I noticed that the display screen webnt to NOT READY. This is normal as the book says it will take 3 min to warm the water, and afterwards you can press the cup button and run clean hot water into your prepositioned cup. 3 min passed.. 20 min passed still NOT READY. Unplugged unit to attempt a reset... Comes back on with NOT READY. Nothing I do at this point clears the unit. Called customer service, a technican is suppose to call me back tomorrow as they are off today (day after Xmas). Customer service did say that the unit should have sucked a bunch of water out of the tank on the initial prime which it did not. I figure the pump is bad. The unit is heating as it feels warm. So I am Bummed and now waiting on a return call. Did this happen to you too?
