Keurig Coffee Maker's Could be Deadly!

by Bert
(Saskatchewan)

When I was cleaning my keurig I noticed that the water reservoir was made from Polystyrene. Everything I have read says that this material contains carcinogens (cancer causing agents - the same cancer that Sheryl Crow got from drinking from contaminated bottles!).

I emailed keurig - there response took about a week, but basically they feel they follow government guidelines and this is an acceptible level of carcinogens!!!!

All I'm saying is that you will probably end up taking chances with your health if you continue to use the keurig as they have no plans to change it!

How many other products are made with the same crap and we don't know about it? Check out your appliances before you buy - convenience could kill you!

Ignorance NEW
by: Anonymous

These comments are sadly uneducated, unresearched and plain ignorant. "We can live or we can live in fear". EDUCATING yourself is not living in fear. Choosing the BETTER, SAFER alternative is not living in fear, it is living EMPOWERED. Being conscious of what you are putting in and around your body makes you a better person (not to mention incredibly more well off, health wise). Is it more difficult to find 'safe' product? Yes, absolutely. But with the sobering statistics of auto-immune disorders, diseases and cancers the western culter is faced with, makes it seem you can either choose to live wisely, or you can choose to life foolishly and selfishly. Not to mention, the effect on the environment may not matter to our generation, but sadly it WILL affect our children's generation and they will be left to clean up after the ignorance of those who decided to sit and twiddle their thumbs because it's 'easier'!
And to address, "chemicals are everywhere and not using a coffeee maker containing it, will not keep them out of you" is honestly, borderline laughable. Lowering the carcinogens, chemicals and toxins you are surrounded, or consume, is OBVIOUSLY a wise decision. Your logic is like saying that because you live in a house with smokers, you deciding to smoke, will make no difference to your health because it's around you already. Do you see the flaw in your logic?

It IS possible not to purchase items made with plastic or other toxins, it's whether you CHOOSE to. Eat local, eat fresh, eat organic, make things yourself.

Convenience WILL kill you!

Ok, so tell me what doesn't have carcinogens? What isn't made out of plastic in some form? baby bottles? sippy cups? summer-time pretty patio cups? ketchup bottles? milk jugs? oj containers? laundry soap? slurpee cups? pampers? look around lately? it's everywhere! (how do you think the hot water got to the top of a mr. coffee?) your car, your house, everywhere! we can "live" or we an live in fear.

Cancer Shmancer
by: Anonymous

The same cancer that Miss Crow got from drinking out of plastic bottles? Really? Where is the study on that story? It wasn't the Formula 409 she used to clean her counters? The air we breathe is as dangerous as any single-serve coffee machine on our counters. Chemicals in general are the problem, and not buying a coffee machine is not going to keep them from getting in your body.
