Keurig Coffee Machines - What is wrong with this product????

by Charlotte

My daughter gave me a Keurig Coffee Maker for Christmas. Oh, I loved it. Ordered bunches of coffees...used it every day, sometimes more than once.

NOW it has begun doing some strange things....shuts off suddenly....when I can get it to work, only perks a small amount of coffee in my cup, the buttons won't light up, I have used only distilled water... I finally just unplugged it today. So disappointed. What is wrong with this product????

Clogging
by: B60

I bought the B60 from Target during a promotion in Sept 2011, buy at $170. and get a $30. Target gift card. Machine worked great for the first five months, then started clogging, pouring incomplete cups, etc. I then descaled with vinegar per the instructions, I always use filtered water, but clogging issue returned shortly after the descaling.

One thing to try is to use a bent paper clip to clear out the needle in the cup, and then spray with compressed air, afterwards run a cycle with just water to clean. BUT, should all of this constant maintenance be necessary on a coffee machine costing close to $200?! I wonder how Starbucks is coming along with their machine....

I am so sorry I did not read these comments
by: Trudy Engelen

Yes, I am sorry I did not read these comments before we bought our Single-Cup (non) Brew system. It was a dream come true UNTIL it started to do whatever it wanted. Small cup?? No you get a big cup until you have a mess. Big cup? No, you are only allowed a small one today. After banging on the thing, turning it off and on...we send it for repair/replace on October 28, 2011. We had to buy an old fashioned Mr. Coffee to get our coffee.

Cost to us so far: Shipping to warranty $23.01 cheque for them to ship it back $10.00 coffee maker for standby @22.50 to a total of $55.51 AND still we are waiting for our 'new' machine to come. Called today (second time) and got same answer "we are out of stock - will ship in 2 weeks"

Wow they must have a lot of replacements to do to be out of stock all the time!!!!!

I will send them an e-mail with the address to this website.
And give my replacement to some unsuspecting not so close friend IF it ever comes.

just stops working
by: Anonymous

I love my Keurig, but the last week or so it won't make coffee.. I turn it on and put the k-cup in an no coffee. I change the filter, I cleaned the water. Then I turned it back on set the menu. The timer off sign stays on.. Then I can't change the cup size it stays at 12... Finally after about 2 hours of playing with it it works. Then again about a week later it starts all over gain.. I only have it a little over 1 year, can you please help I love my Keurig..

EXCELLENT Customer Service
by: Anonymous

I think the company has excellent customer service. I do believe there can be problems with a short cup, as this has happened to me twice. However, I simply call customer service, attempt to fix it over the phone, and if the problem persists, they have twice sent me a new coffee maker free, no questions asked, and usually within 3 days. In this age of extremely poor customer service and follow through, I have been very impressed with the Keurig company.

I am titred of having to slap the top or bang on the side of my coffee maker
by: Anonymous

My first Keurig was a B70 and I have used it for a little over a year. It never did tell me to de-scale but I decided to do it anyway. Now the thing isn't working right. My wife had me buy another, a model B60, which is a little cheaper. I would like to fix the ooother one. I kept working on it, putting vinegar in it and then running clean water through it, as often as I could. However, it only works and gives me a travel cup of hot water when I slap the top or bang on the side of the thing. If I bang on it, it works every time, but I would like to know what is going on with it that I have to bang on it get it to come out with the hot water. If anyone knows or has an idea, please post it on this site.

Customer "no" service
by: Anonymous

I've had my Keurig about 18 months and after descaling x 4, it has finally given up the ghost. My frustration is sending an email for assistance only to be told to CALL someone (why have email as an option in the first place?) and then being told to descale and poke a paper clip into it. It now empties 1/2 a carafe of water into the cup and never heats the water. We've given this as gifts and I know these people will be thrilled when they start to have the same problem. I see some of you are on your 4th or 5th machine. For me, I'll try to find a similar product from a different manufacturer. If I can't find one, I'm stuck with K cups out the kazoo! One is enough for me.

Problem with Keurig- Solution..Join Green Mountain Coffee
by: Anonymous

I had a problem with my Keurig as well. There was a bad storm and a power surge ruined my coffeemaker. It was over a year old so Keurig wouldn't replace it, but since I'm a Green Mountain Coffee Member, they replaced it no problem! I am getting my brand new Keurig, in a couple days! So excited!

On my 2nd Keurig-the first one lasted a couple of months and this last one worked for 2-3 cups of coffee. Contemplating sending for a 3rd one?

Ridiculous
by: PiperBell

I had no idea that so many other people had SO many issues with Keurig machines. I got mine as a gift in 2009 (2 years ago) and it worked fine (some minor quirks) until about 3 months ago. At that time it stopped working all together (no warranty at this point) and said DESCALE on the screen (that was a pain). I did that and then it started only making very TINY cups of coffee at one time. Then it said add water and then I would see it sending the water back into the resevoir. It's crazy. The worst part is that on the AM's that I really need it- it decides to be a one hour ordeal for coffee and then I end up making a Starbucks run. I donated my back-up drip coffee maker to tornado victims but it looks like now I will need to go out and purchase a new back-up. What a ridiculous machine!

DO NOT BUY KEURIG!!!
by: Kylie Bo Bylie

The biggest piece of crap ever. I've never had to do so much maintenence on a coffee maker in my life. Descaling didn't work. We only had the thing 3 months before having problems. I think it's a pump problem. We were ending up with maybe 3 ounces in a cup if we were lucky. Had to keep turning off and on. It's a very unreliable machine. Keurig should be forced to stop selling these until they have corrected the problems. It's a rip off.

What happened?
by: Anonymous

I purchase the Keurig in Dec 2009. Recently, it started producing a short cup of the coffee. I have cleaned both the needle and the cup holder. Now the machine does not work at all. I am so disappointed since I enjoyed the convenience of making one cup. After reading these comments, I will return to my old drip coffee maker.

Dud
by: Anonymous

Have had this machine for over a year and and half. Worked fine for a few months and then suddenly stopped as if it was plugged. Went through the descale process and after a few hours of unplugging it and hitting the large cup button I was able to get it to brew just water without any coffee in it. Since that time it has been hit and miss... until lately, where is will not brew at all, hot water goes back into the water canister on the side. If I leave it, it sometimes will start on its own.

This company is selling a junk product. Consumers wouldn’t buy a new coffee maker every two years but it is obvious these machines need replacing regularly. They aren’t cheap nor is the coffee. I think consumers are being duped by this company. They should be allowing us to take the machines back to the stores we bought them from for a replacement or our money back.

Crack along top
by: Anonymous

I have had my Keurig 2 years 3/17 and just discovered a crack in the plastic at the top for no apparent reason, very strange , it still works but am disappointed that it is broken. I do love the convenience.

Good Concept-Bad Product
by: Mommamouse

Received my first Platinum Keurig as a Christmas gift from my daughter in Dec 09 and am now on replacement number 4, just spoke to yet another customer service person from Keurig who insists its the water causing the problems. The manual states use "bottled or filtered water" and to "descale every 3-6 months" regardless of the machine indicating a need for descaling, which I have done religously. I use only K-cup coffee and am the only one who uses the machine, usually have 2-3 cups per day. I have performed cleaning and maintenance by the numbers as described in the manual. Each machine had these common defects 1)short cupping, this last one barely spit out 2 ounces at the end. 1) hot water returning into the resevoir 3) brew button would not work, had to unplug and replug the machine just to get the 2 ounces, eventually would not brew even doing the unplug/replug thing. Folks, it not the water or the operator, read through other comments, the concept is good but the product is extremely flawed!! Keurig will not accept these machines back, they have you just toss them out...maybe if they would take these machines back, take them apart and find out what is wrong and fix it we wouldn't have these clogging our landfills! If number 4 follows suit, I will be boxing this thing up and sending it back regardless! I'm just sorry my daughter wasted her money. I hope everyone will read these comments before buying a Keurig, my advice is, don't!

You broke my coffee-lovin' heart, Keurig!!
by: Lisa H.

My husband's uncle purchased a Keurig about a year and a half ago and we liked the coffee and convenience, so we added it to our wedding registry. Our new Keurig was our favorite wedding gift- we are big coffee lovers, but we hate to make coffee the old fashioned way.

Right after we got ours, MHU's started acting up and then broke (just a few short months after he bought it). We've only had ours for about six months, and until a week and a half ago it was working like a dream (except for the My K-cup thing- that was a disaster from the start- squirted water everywhere and left you with a cup full of muddy grounds).

Then it started doing a weird flashing thing with the clock- it wouldn't make coffee unless you set the clock each time. Last night I went to make a cup of tea and the thing wouldn't turn on. It's completely dead!

I guess we are just going to have to give away all the k-cups and accessories we've purchased. What a disappointment.

Disappointed
by: Anonymous

Given the Platinum Edition as a gift. Worked OK for 2 weeks - started sputtering water everywhere. Just got rid of it.

The company should read these complaints. We all cannot be wrong.

It is a great concept but a poorly-made product.

6th one is not a charm
by: Anonymous

I just received my 6th keurig so that is 5 replacements. I was impressed with the new one coming so quickly since I used to have to wait several weeks. However after setting it up I was totally disappointed ! I only got a tiny cup on the large setting. Now I have to go thru the whole customer service route again-they want me to descale it-I told them it is brand new out of the box-they are having a tech call me back. I made my first Keurig purchase Feb 2010 and it has been array of broken machines since! My fedex guy said that he sees this all the time !I really want it to work!

My Keurig sound like a fog horn!!! Anyone else? I got this for Christmas as a present. For the money, should have gotten a Bunn or a good old reliable Mr. Coffee.

Hate this Product
by: Anonymous

They should recall these stupid coffee makers. I paid almost 200.00 with shipping for my one year old coffee maker and it turns on and off 3 to 4 times while trying to make a cup and now if it brews at all it takes 10 minutes and only gives me 3 ounces of coffee!! I have tried everything the book says and it still won't work. I have gone back to my old coffee maker!!!

SAME ISSUES!!!!
by: JFEENEY

We have three machines at work and I bought the Platinum model for home. All four machines have the same problem ...... consistently we get the short cup and have to brew again. My Platinum at home is now struggling to make a cup at times. Any answers from the company???

Same old story
by: Anonymous

My two sons bought a B40 for my wife for mothers day 2010. After the K cups were finished, we went back to using our no frills, but reliable $15.00 Mr. Coffee machine and the Keurig went unused until our attempt this December.

Last week I bought a my K cup at Walmart so I could use ground coffee instead of only purchasing those k cups (which I'm told are good).

My younger son tried the machine and it gurgled, made noise but didn't draw water from the reservoir. Apparently this is indemic to these machines. We have another on the way at no charge but I really don't have expectations that it will be much better.

The machines are essentially expensive pieces of Chinese made junk. The company was quick to agree to send another machine as they have to hundreds of others that report similar problems. I feeel bad for the kids having spent the money, and I'm genuinely surprised that this company doesn't have an interest in resolving this problemm with their product. Maybe there are going out of business or something and don't really care. Not sure but this problem is truly ridiculous.

I would never recommend their company or product to anyone unless the buyer has a facination with things that never ruly work right. You can't make this stuff up!

Not impressed!
by: Angela

Purchased the first machine for about 160.00....Worked great for about 2 months or so....Then just started shutting off on its own and at times would not turn back on. Emailed customer service and without hesitation sent another machine for free. We have been using the second one for about 4 months now and it takes forever to brew the coffee. Sounds like it is really struggling, then when it comes out I am not sure if it will be one OZ or a full cup. I dont know, I love the machine when it works but right now just too much of a hassle.

Dec 15, 2010
AWFUL
by: Anonymous

I have gone through three of these machines, each dying after about 3 months. I think Keurig should just send out replacements automatically every 3 months to each buyer. If there is someone on your Christmas list that you would like to annoy just give them one of these and let the annoying begin.

WASTE OF MONEY

Small cup problem
by: Glen

We have had our Keurig for just under a year and it has developed the same small cup problem that a lot of people are having. The concept is good but the quality is terrible. Today Dec 14 Green Mountain Coffee who owns Keurig had there shares drop signifantly. Approx 80% of there sales are to Keurig and if the quality of the machines are this bad I'm sure sales are dropping as well. Maybe the only way to fix the coffee maker problem is to put pressure on Green Mountain Coffee.

Mini Plus
by: Anonymous

We are on our 5th mini plus in 3 months. It worked a few weeks, then stopped putting out coffee. the 4th one brewed 6 cups and stopped. Customer service said I wasn't measuring my water right. I measure. Worked a few more cups, then nothing. You can hear it brewing, then it won't put out coffee. SOOOOO frustrating. I have a ton of k cups and am determined. I know Kohls thinks I am a thief. Any advice??

QVC sold us some crap
by: Bobby Nicholson

We have 2 platinum models both are doing the same thing. To get coffee you have to turn the machine on and off 2 or 3 times to get one cup. We have run enough vinegar through them to clean 10 machines. The location can't be the problem because I have one of them at work.

What the heck
by: Patrick

I'm on my third machine. You would think I would learn. My newest machine sounds like its grinding rocks when heating up. Keurig told me that that sound was normal. Sorry Boys-I'm going back to my good old friend "Mr.Coffee" the drip! $12.00 a year at wal mart for a new one.

Getting keurig to run better again
by: Tom White

I had the same problem. I pulled the water tank off the unit and put it back on pushing down hard to get a seal. It's working a lot better now. Once it starts working better, don't remove the water tank if you don't have to and that's an order. Hope this helps.

HATE KEURIG
by: JOANN

I bought my first Keurig January 2010 and paid around $170.00, It worked for about 3 months and then it would not even brew an ounce of coffee. I called the Keurig company and they replaced the machine and now again I cannot get a full cup of coffee. It takes too long to brew a cup of coffee and the machine actually groans and hisses trying to brew a cup. I will go back to a conventional coffee maker. Keurig never again!!!!

Great - Could have been better!
by: Anonymous

I LOVED my Keurig. It worked great for over a year. Then it has been a struggle every day. I don't know how long to expect/hope for. I've tried everything but it needs something drastic. I don't know whether to purchase another. $99/year is alot, but it is GREAT when it works.

Thanks for the concept!!!!!!

Disappointing product
by: Susan

My first Keurig worked well for about 3 months and then began to only brew half a cup at each brew. I did the cleaning needle procedure and de scaling to no avail. Keurig replaced the unit with a new one (I was impressed with their customer service), however the second unit, now almost 3 months old is doing the same thing. If this is what I have to go through every three months, I will definitely be changing brands. Coffee tastes great and is so convenient, but only when the unit works!

Arrrggh!
by: Anonymous

My Husband and I purchased this machine for ourselves (08/09/10) and, recently for the 24th birthday of our son. We were so in love for for teh first 2 months that we wanted to share the experience. Well, the love affair has ended with our machine groaning and refusing to produce an ounce of coffee. Finally my peacful husband has slapped it, staring hopelessly into the eye of the kcup dispenser wondering what has gone wrong. I am worried about how my son's relationship with Keurig will end...hopefully not painfully at 6am! Kcups FOR SALE!

Poor quality machine
by: Anonymous

We're on our second unit. First one gave up after about a year. Now this one is acting a bit strangely. Will have to go back to regular drip type maker if this one gives up. Great idea but will likely disappear due to poor quality of machines.

Odd Problems
by: Anonymous

Our machine worked fine, then one day it took forever to brew the coffee. A slicht tap on the top fixed it. The other morning I awoke to a drum solo, it was my husband banging on the machine like a madman.
It worked great for a few months but now I am totaly disappointed.

same problem as the others
by: Anonymous

I bought a Keurig "Special Edition" on 3/27/10. Loved it!! But after a few weeks it began to stop brewing and repeatedly shut down on its' own. Got in touch with tech support and was sent another machine free of charge. Alas! Same problem after a bit. Would love to have this machine if it work as it is designed to. However, I believe this product was rushed to store shelves before it was ready.

I too intend to use up my remaining cups and look elsewhere for a workable product.

Sep 18, 2010
Same problems
by: Bill

I have the same continuing problems with this machine. The needle which pierces the foil lid on the K cups is constantly clogging which results in reduced or no flow of heated water. I just cleaned the needle (while on the phone with Keurig) and the "fix" lasted for all of 8 brew cycles.
This machine is poorly designed.
I intend to use up my remaining supply of coffee and then move onto another system.
