Big kudos to Dom for suggested hi-alt fixes to B70
by: Miguel@BigBearMtn

I'd just like to give a big shout out to Dom in Parker, CO for his suggestion on how to fix and handle (on a going-forward basis) the Keurig B70 in high altitude.

I had an earlier sneaking suspicion that altitude (we're at 7,000-plus feet) could be playing a role in the water pump problems in the unit, but your suggestion to clean the feeder pin with a paper clip and then using to pre-puncture the K-cups was a gem of an idea -- now the machine is backing pumping water and delivering full cups of coffe again!

Thanks again for the great ideas on the fix, which I heartily recommend to any other Keurig B70, B60 and B40 users with this recurring water pump problem since the grounds are apparently being blown back up into the feeder lines and clogging things up! Quite a brilliant suggestion for the fix from Dom -- and now you don't have to return the machines for exchange (at least in some cases!).

Please follow Dom's suggestions, because you could have a "workable" Keurig once again! ;-D

High Altitude Keurig
by: Dom in Parker, CO

We had similar problems to those described above. Keurig replaced our first platinum brewer for free. A couple days after we started using the new brewer, same symptoms: brewing cycle starts then cuts off after a few drips of coffee. Called Keurig again and this time the CSR suggested that we should pre-puncture the k-cups because we're at high altitude (6400')... After using the paperclip cleaning method and running a cycle with no k-cup, everything has been working fine for two weeks -- I just pre-puncture the foil before the k-cup goes in.

I think what happens at high-altitude is that if the k-cup is packed at low altitude, the pressure inside the k-cup blows coffee grounds up into the water supply mechanism when it punctures the foil. This leads to the water supply tube clogging and failing.

Brewers at altitude
by: Anonymous

I live at just over 8000 ft. We have had 3 of the keurig platinum brewers and now two of the newer cuisinart models. We bought the cuisinart model in December and it is being replaced as we speak. My husband brought his work brewer home for us to use while we wait for the new one. His office as about 800 or 1000 ft lower than our house. His brewer worked great at work and doesn't work here at all. I have used the paperclip, descaled, even punctured the cups, and run water only for every one of my breeds and nothing works. This will be the last newer we buy. As much as I love the coffee and it's convenience, I cannot afford to buy anymore brewers.

Keurig not brewing full cup
by: DikkeBakkus

Got the Keurig B70 as a Christmas present, after 2 days it was not brewing properly anymore. Left it there for a couple of days and decided to give it a go before returning the machine, and it worked ?! Couple of weeks later same problem and then read about the 'paperclip method' just punch it with a paperclip, run a cup without a k-cup and you will see a lot of s#$# in your cup.
After that working perfect again. As a side note so far it seem to happen after using the hot chocolate cups, don't know if this is the issue, but I decided to clean the pincher/waterline once a week with a paperclip, see what happens...okay I can return it, but it makes a really good, smooth cup of coffee, just the way I like it, and every machine needs maitenance once in a while, I also live on 2250ft, could be a source of the problem as well (pressure)
Anyway, hope this helps....

Keurig customer service sucks!!!!!!!!
by: Kathy Crafton

I got a keurig as a gift last Christmas it started leaking and short brewing. Leaked all down inside my cabinets. Called Keurig they replaced it. I have had the new one for about a month and now it won't prime. I called customer service to see why and what i should do. They told me to run water thru it like 3 times and that would fix it. Well thats fine except you have to first unplug it fiddle with it and try to get it to let you get the ready to brew light to light up to be able to do this. So I do this and it works for one cup. I call back they put me thru the ringer for all my info again.I tell them its not working again they put me on hold for like 10 mins then i get disconected. So i email them( sick of the phone calls) it get an auto response that they will get back to me in 48 hrs. Never did hear from them. Called again of course the gotta give them all your info again, after that they walk me thur running the water tru it again. I got one cup of coffe after that. Prime comes up again. Call them back again all the info crap, no techs are available they will call me back within 20 mins. Two hours later still no call. I call again ask for a supervisor, guess what not available they will have someone call me. Still waiting!!!!!!!!!!!!

High fail rate
by: Anonymous

As a dumpster diver, often at a major home store,
every week there are a couple of Keurigs tossed out.
Some won't power up, some act strangle and some work as new and people are just wasteful not to put these to use instead of filling landfills and wasting resources...
Don't get me started on Barnes & Nobel and magazine distributers throwing tons of magazine paper in the landfill instead of recycling all that paper (read dead trees)

Thanks...

Thanks...works fine after using the paperclip to unclog the water intake. Live at 6400 ft and seems similar problems at high altitude.

hmmmmm

The brewers have serious issues.....mine seems to be the
pump and short-cupping...but if I take it to a high altitude
and puncture the bottom of the k-cup it should work
fine, correct?

Going on my 5th brewer---good news is they have been
still under warranty...

Problem solved
by: WAG

I followed the paperclip process and my Keurig works again. I was ready to return my second to Costco and try another maker.

Thank you!!!!!
by: Anonymous

I live at 6700 feet. We followed your paper clip procedure and sure enough there were grounds in the needle. We already sent one coffee maker back because the pump didn't work so when the machine wouldn't brew this morning we were ready to throw it out the window. The altitude issue makes so much sense. We will now puncture the bottom of the k-cup first before we brew!!

Keurig fix
by: Anonymous

I might have solved my proglem. My unit would make a short pump noise then drip coffee into the cup for a while then reset.
I stuck a paper clip in the upper puncturing straw to dislodge anything then ran water thru it without a k-cup, and a major amount of coffee grinds came out. Then I realized that if you push the k-cup down and puncture the lower puncturing straw first the coffee grounds don't shoot up the upper puncturing straw thus cloging the unit. I live at high altitude, over 5000 feet and the k-cups seem to be under preasure.

Your Keurig
by: Shel

Reference your Keurig not priming. First of all as far as I know the Keurig does not have a reset. However if you give Keurig customer service a call they can walk you thru a reboot type of mode. i.e. unplug your brewer for at least 30 seconds. Then remove your water resivoir. Fill it with water and make sure it is firmly seated. Plug the brewer back in and run a couple of cycles just using the water. If they can't get it working and if in warranty they will most likely send you a new brewer and extra coffee. Keurig has a great customer service dept.
