Keurig B60/ B70 - Three Strikes and You're Out

by Roger
(Renton, Washington)

We got our first Keurig B60 for Christmas....It seemed to be working but despite all of our efforts with the clock/menu....it would shut itself off on most occasions after the first cup....but then sometimes it would stay on.....it became a nuisance problem a few months back. We called and they sent out a new B70 model, and told us to keep the B60, and send back a key part for return credit.

We got the new B70 model about a month ago. Then, within 2 days, we noticed a problem when we could not turn on the machine with the toggle switch....We tried everything...but finally it would not turn on at all. I suspected a bad switch or contact.....Ok, so we called again, they would send out another B70 model and went back to the old B60 model until the new one showed up. At least the toggle on switch was working.

A few days ago, we got the new B70....and guess what...we are starting to have the same problem again trying to turn it on with the toggle switch. It's just a guess...but maybe the tolerance on the B70 switch is bad for 20 amp kitchen circuits which we have and eventually burns out the contact or switch...maybe a 10 amp circuit would be safer....Keurig should be testing these units more thoroughly. If this 3rd one fails....we will ask for a final refund....not another replacement.

Update on Our New B70 Model
by: Roger

Here's an update as of 6/26/2010 on the last B70 we had delivered 3 weeks ago. It started to fail again like the first B70, as the toggle switch would not turn it on every time......After reading another reviewer's comment on using a Surge Protector to steady voltage current, we bought a plug-in 810 joule 3 outlet into our current kitchen outlet for the Keurig.....Guess what? No problems with the on switch since then and it stays on too after the first cup is brewed, unlike the B60 we got originally.

The other suggestion for you: Once you plug it in...DON'T MOVE IT! We used to move it from under the kitchen cabinet so we would have clearance for the K-cup and then back. Position it so you have just enough clearance to open it to put in/take out K-cups....this coffee maker may be extremly sensative to movement while plugged in and may shut itself off and stay off until it resets itself....Good luck!
