I Love My Stove Top Percolator

by Laura

My coffee maker is a percolator that sits on a stove burner. I bought it at Cabellas, which is an outdoor/camping store.

I love it, it is so simple - it will last probably for the rest of my life because it has no heating element to go bad or glass pot to break. The one problem I did have was that the glass bulb on the lid broke. But I went to Amish country and found a plastic replacement, so I think I'm good for the rest of my life.

Another reason why I love this coffee pot is because it makes good strong coffee, which I really like. The pot makes about a quart and a half of coffee.

I have owned several drip coffee makers of various brands, such as Mr. Coffee. I don't like them in part because if you leave them on for a long time, the coffee starts to smell and taste really bad.

In contrast, I put the coffee from my percolator into a thermos and it is hot and good for the rest of the day. Also, since my percolator will last for a very long time, then I think it's "greener" than a drip coffee machine.
