GE 5-Cup Digital Coffee Maker #169208

by Jack
(Chicago, Illinois )

GE 5-Cup Digital Coffee Maker Model Number #169208 My little GE coffee maker is a gift sent from heaven. Every morning I get up after a long deep sleep and what do I smell? That’s right coffee, no bacon or eggs or toast.

I smell just the all encompassing smell of fresh made coffee. I know you coffee nuts out there know what I’m talking about. This thing makes around 5 cups of coffee a day for my morning shift at work. All I have to do is remember to put the water and ground coffee in at night and it makes it all by itself.

It even shut itself off after an hour so you don’t get that burn’t trucker coffee taste. I also think that something so small could make such an awesome cup of coffee. I now have more room on my kitchen counter for other things.

The clock on the front could be a little better for people with vision issues, but that would make the thing bigger wouldn’t it. Also they have filters that you can get that you can reuse but they leave a little bit of grounds at the bottom.

So just by the plain paper ones if you can’t deal with a little bit of shifting. I can even take the pot off when I want some coffee, even when it is brewing and get me a sweet cup of Joe.Owner for 3 months 5 out of 5.

Frustrated
by: Anonymous

I was so frustrated with this coffee maker, because the carafe broke when washing it. Luckily, I saved the manual and called them about it. THey told me to take it to Walmart and return it. THEY HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK!! WOOHOO! Now, I am buying one that is either stainless steel or has replacement carafes. I learned my lesson!

Why even sale a coffee maker if you can't purchase a replacement carafe. The glass is so thin. My cracked when washing it....other than that, it's a good product.

by: Carrie

I don't know why so many of you are having trouble with the carafe Ive had this coffee pot for 2 years and I love it hasn't given me any trouble whatsoever. It hasn't broken or cracked any part... I use it everyday some times 2-3 times a day... Although I do give it a good rinse through once a week and I use paper cone filters... but I ♥ this coffee maker I would give it 10 stars if I could

Lukewarm coffee
by: Anonymous

After doing the instant coffee microwave thing for years I decided to buy a drip coffee maker and wanted a small one. The GE 5 cup coffee maker really looked good. I was ready to get one and looked down from the shelf to get one and Walmart was out of stock and said there would be one in 3 or 4 days so I waited. I got it and started to use the thing. Lukewarm coffee everytime. What a joke. I will not reccomend this coffee maker. I can't believe they even are so proud to even sell such a thing. Where is their quality control. Oh yes China. I'm taking out the trash and taking this back to the store.

Hamilton Beach 5 Flask Fits GE 5 Cup
by: Jeff

I used my old Hamilton Beach 5 cup flask in my GE 5 cup broken flask coffee maker. Perhaps contact Hamilton Beach and see if they have separate parts to send out. Also you can go to Walmart first and try switching them right on the shelf. Sorry for previous post I stated Sunbeam works but it is Hamilton beach.

GE 5 Cup Carafe Replacement
by: Anonymous

I had a 5 cup sunbeam coffe maker from walmart before the GE and liked the timer on the GE. Flask broke on GE, but the flask off of the Sunbeam fits perfect. Maybe order the 5 cup flask from Sunbeam if they have theirs separate. Go to walmart and you can try the flask from Sunbeam on the GE works great!

Glass Too Thin
by: Anonymous

This is a great appliance, but the glass carafe is just too thin and cracks without any pressure at all....just look at it and it will crack, and I'm not that ugly! ha ha This is my second one (had the first one replaced at Walmart) and the exact same problem occurred. No replacement carafes to be found anywhere (because they break so fast nobody, including thrift stores, can keep them or get them to stock. All GE has to do is manufacture this same model with a heavier glass carafe. Where is the GE product manager when ya need him/her?

Buy Something Else!
by: Anonymous

The pot broke right after the warranty expired and I could not get a replacement pot.

Also, it does not make 5 cups of coffee either.

I would reccomend that GE spend more time reengineering this pot and make a better product available for the consumer.

When are americans going to get with it!!! We can only prove how dumn we are and we do it well. In the the fifties we had it right. Why do we see regularly the buyout/sellout of good business for the sake of the monopolistic. Everyday I am so sick of confronting the new age of change to the WORST. Get the neonarcistic scum out of commerce and bring back american consumerism. Get rid of media commerce, computer commerce, and tax the crap out of foreign trade. Institute consumerism. Sick of whiners, bring back the do-gooders and the do-ers.

Worked fine-until it died
by: Anonymous

I did not have the same problem as the other users with the carafe, however after just under a year of owning this, i woke up on a Monday morning and it simply did not work any longer. I filled it and pressed the start button and it blinked at me as if it were going to start brewing, but that was it. I tried it a couple times after that just to be sure, but it only confirmed my fear that the thing was dead. NOT a good start to my Monday morning to say the least. Waste of money.

Don't buy this model.
by: Anonymous

Sadly, this coffeemaker has proved to be more useful as an digital clock than as a coffeemaker.

Like many, the handle on my carafe went as well, conveniently right after the extended warranty expired.

I cannot find a replacement either, though I believe the machine in of itself is still serviceable, it does me no good when I cannot find where to purchase a replacement carafe.

I think I'll save my money and perhaps buy a higher quality product. Black & Decker really disappointed me on this one.

What do you except for $20?
by: Anonymous

This COULD have been a great little coffee maker - but it isn't :-(
- The little plastic pieces that latch the top in place broke off first. Then the hinge that attaches the top broke.
- The coffee doesn't seem to be as hot as other coffee makers we've owned.
- I've not yet had the carafe break but it's only a matter of time before I drop it and break it. Other postings have mentioned that a replacement carafe is NOT available, so knowing that, I would NOT purchase this item.

Do Not Buy, Junk
by: Anonymous

I've only had this junk for a week and I'm returning it to Wally World today.
It doesn't make hot coffee, it spills when pouring,
The carafe handle is too short, and after reading reviews from others the carafe breaks premature.
Also checked G E's site and they don't even show this model number T F 6, as one of their products.

Coffee carafe is worthless
by: Anonymous

We've had the coffee maker several months and the carafe handle got wobbly and nearly broke off. No replacement carafe to be found anywhere. The coffee also is not as hot as what our previous Mr. Coffee machine made. So I'm going out to buy a new coffee maker - and it won't be GE! What a waste of $20.

SOLVE THE PROBLEM YOURSELF
by: REPLACER

Hey, if they won't replace the glass pot, buy a new one and switch pots. Put the broken pot back in the new box. Seal and return it. Walmart and GE will catch on soon. The same thing happened to me, only after having it for 3 months. Sometimes you just have to solve it yourself. They obviously don't feel bad about ripping people off.

Unable to find GE 4 c replacement carafe
by: Anonymous

I have looked at Target and Walmart for a replacement carafe for my 4 c GE coffee maker. No luck. The Mr Coffee carafe will not fit in the GE model and that is the only one Walmart stocks in the 4 c size. The original pot broke after only 1 month. The glass broke just below the upper part of the handle under the upper rim. I think the glass is too thin to support any pressure from the weight of the coffee or just holding it to dry it. Attempting today to take just the maker back to Walmart to get a full replacement. I do not have the broken pot or the box so we'll see if they will replace it. I'll let you know.

Broken Carafe
by: Anonymous

It seems the GE 5-cup Programmable coffee maker has a manufacturer's defect. When one tries to take the full carafe out for pouring, the pot handle cannot support the full carafe and thus the glass carafe breaks. A call to GE revealed one must return the coffee maker to the store it was purchased from. GE has no other comment.

Wouldn't buy it again.
by: G. Fronko

I have not had this coffee pot very long, but the top cracked and will not stay closed. The carafe does not pour the coffee correctly. Every time you go to pour the coffee, it leaks all over the table or counter. I don't think this product is very good. I have cautioned others not to buy this product. What happened to good workmanship?

broken carafe
by: Anonymous

After 30 days of use the carafe broke. I was holding it by the handle and drying off the bottom with the other hand when the neck broke, apparently unable to take any pressure. I have been looking, but cannot find a replacement carafe, so far. The carafe also has a very uncomfortable handle that feels like it will slip out of your hand. The machine seems ok but does not really make a full 5 cups. I would not buy it again because of the carafe, otherwise I would.

Replacement Carafe
by: Charity

I broke my carafe this morning (after only having the machine for a week!) and I went thru the whole song and dance on where to find a replacement. Went back to Walmart and they didn't have it. I called the toll free customer service and told the CSA what had happened and she told me that Walmart should carry the replacements and if they don't have one then I was to go to Customer Service and request one be shipped to that store.

So after I'd done all that and gotten a Department Manager involved it turns out that Walmart does NOT and can NOT order just the carafe ~ they have to order the whole machine!!!!! Seriously?

So this is what I've been able to find: http://www.google.com/products?q=5+cup++carafe+replacement&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=ahljTOSsKIOBlAer7v3ICg&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=3&ved=0CEIQrQQwAg

The problem is that nobody has a 5 cup carafe. They are all at least 10 to 14 cups. The reviews on the Medelco brand universal carafe is not good.

I sent GE an email and told them to get with it (like that will happen!) and after all that Walmart replaced the whole thing for me. But just this one time.

I love my 5-cup GE coffee maker because it makes enough for me without taking up so much counter space. To sell the coffee maker and not make a replacement carafe is ridiculous.
