Cuisinart PG11358-B programmable Coffee Maker

My latest foray into coffeemaking, the Cuisinart PG11358-B, is definitely a step up from my 20-year-old Krups.

I've had it for a year now, and I'm generally pleased with the performance, but it's not without its issues. The coffeemaker is impressive looking - an industrial design with stainless steel and black colors.

It's fully programmable and is capable of making up to 12 cups of coffee. The heating element is capable of keeping the carafe at a low, medium or high setting. It has a disposable water filter that will remove impurities; I must admit, though, that I've forgotten about it and haven't changed it (and can't tell the difference).

Pouring the water in the appliance is extremely difficult - there is a small opening in the back right corner, and you have to aim carefully. It also comes with a gold filter - which sounds fancy, but too many grounds get through, leaving your last sips with a gritty taste. I usually stick with paper.

I may be expecting too much from a sub-$100 coffeemaker, but this Cuisinart still doesn't measure up to your favorite coffee shop or even a French press. It does make adequate coffee, though, but it leaves me to wonder how it compares in a blind taste test to the $25 Mr. Coffee machines.

This is the second one we've had. The self clean light came on within the first month with the first one we got and it wouldn't brew the coffee. The water wouldn't go through. The second on we've had for just over a year and the self clean light came on. I have run it through the cycle at least a dozen times with the suggested vinegar over the past two weeks. It keeps coming back on, it takes forever to brew a pot of coffee. If I could figure out how to take it apart I would so I could try and clear whatever is causing to brew so horribly! Also it steams everywhere. I will not buy another one of these EVER. IT is a time waster trying to clean it.

I miss my Mr. Coffee
by: Anonymous

After about 1 year this machine barely works. It takes almost 45 minutes to brew a pot of coffee, and so much steam escapes that we have to add 15 cups of water for a 12 cup pot. The self clean light comes on about every day. Running the self clean cycle, even multiple times, has not helped. I sadly regret throwing away my $25 Mr. Coffee which i had in great shape after 12 years. Sigh.

Cost per year about the same!

I would like to see if it last 20 years!!!!! Like your Krups.
You would think that for the money it should, but at 100 dollars vs the 25 dollars, you barely break even.
Mine just stopped working after about 5 years. When comparing to 2 years on the 25 dollar machines you barely break even, although it does look nice.
Where can I get a 20 year Krup?
