Burning Wire Smell with Your Keurig?

by RenShep
(Texas)

I just received my second Keurig. (The first kept turning off by itself, then finally would not turn on at all). I plugged the new one in and within five minutes noticed a smell of burning electrical wires. Anybody else notice this? I brewed a cup of coffee and am not sure if it affected the flavor, or if the burning smell just affected my taste buds.

Special Edition is special
by: Anonymous

Got a special edition as a Xmas gift, did the initial water priming and run through, got up 26th morning, smelled a electrical smell, but the coffeee brewed ok. Went to early dinner came home and the house had a burnt wire smell, made a cup of coffee and almost died. The burnt electrical acrid taste was overwhemlming. It has to be returned, not taking another Special Edition that is for sure, would change brands, but have over 100 K cups given as gifts. These units are not cheap but are cheaply made that is for certain. Another company tryi ng to squeeze every penny out of a product by going cheap.

I used my Keurig Elite B40 only a few times and I had the electrical wire smell. It does not work anymore after a very small amount of time.

Keurig burnt wire/plastic smell
by: John from Ontario

I purchased a mini and fell in love with it. So much so that I decided to buy 3, yes three of the specail edition units. The first I used and noticed the smell, so I took another to work to see in it had the same problem. It did. Went to the web and found all kinds of posts about this problem. Pissed off does not describe it. Took all 3 back and got an Elite unit. So far so good no smell at all. Now I guess after reading the reviews, I will have to call Keurig to replace it in a year when it stops working. Tassimo may be my next option unless Keurig wakes up and smells their own coffee !!

Same here

Right after the cleansing brew, it did not stop sizzling. I opened the water entry port and massive amounts of smoke came out. Not impressed. 10 Minutes after unplugging it just kept sizzling, it remained so hot that adding more water would just instantly evaporate. Not cool. I fear after reading these all these models may be garbage. Will be returning and trying the Mr. Coffee k-cup brewer that was $20 cheeper.

Burning Smell and taste
by: Lulu

I just received the Keurig two days ago as a gift. I had to throw out three cups of coffee as they smelled and tasted like burnt plastic. Called Keurig and told me to go through the descaling. Did that and still have the smell and taste. They are now sending me a new unit. I was not impressed that they made me pay shipping charges to send back the k cup holder (18 dollars to ship it). They have supposedly sent me a coupon for free coffee. I have yet to see this. So far not overly impressed.

Taste & Smells like Plastic
by: Anonymous

My 1st Keurig lasted 22 months, it was a B66 and I loved it! It suddenly began shutting off and wouldn't brew.

I recently got B60 and my coffee now tastes & smells like plastic. My kitchen smells like plastic now. I've already tried putting vinegar in the reservoir, running through 4 reservoirs of water, but it didn't help.

I'll try more vinegar tomorrow and run a lot of water through again. Hopefully it will work, if not then I'll look into getting a new brand that doesn't taste like plastic. This is so disappointing

cord arc

Mine does not have a burning smell, but the auto heat did not come on this morning and when I hit the button to manually turn it on, the plug arced in the socket. I guess it's fried! It did last me about 3 years though. Anyone want to take me out of getting another one?

also have burning wire taste and smell
by: joan

I returned my first Keurig due to strong taste and smell of burning wire - or plastic. I am finding that my second one is the same. Has anyone found a way to correct this? Will time help this taste and smell to gradually go away?

burning wire smell
by: scott in nc

I came home from work this week to a smell of plastic burning like when the spatula accidentally hits the eye of the stove. For two days I hunted for the problem. When I opened the casing for the pod on my Keurig to remove an old pod and to insert a new one, the odor was distinctive. It is obvious that the odor is coming from that part of the machine. I've unplugged it and am afraid to use it. I guess it's useless. Anyone else have this issue and know what's causing it. My machine is about a year and a half old, a "Special Edition" model.
